Neel writes:
I founded Acheron Press in 2008 to free myself from the constraints and compromises, and snail pace, of trade publishing.
The name ‘Acheron’ was inspired by a verse from Vergil’s Æneid
Flectere si nequeo superos, Acheronta movebo
The line is often translated as, ‘If I cannot bend Heaven, I shall move Hell’, and was chosen by Freud as the epigraph to his Interpretation of Dreams.
According to the psychoanalyst Bruno Bettelheim, the line encapsulates Freud’s theory that people who have no control over the outside world turn inward to the underworld of their own minds.
