Support & Patronage

A tradition as old as civilisation itself.

Throughout history, many of the world’s greatest works of philosophy, literature, science, and art have depended upon the generosity of readers, patrons, and benefactors.

From the Academy of Plato to the libraries of Alexandria, from the Renaissance workshops of Florence to the colleges of Oxford, the pursuit of knowledge has flourished not only through talent and hard work, but through those who recognised its value and chose to sustain it.

Although the world has changed, the principle remains the same.

My hope has always been to write books and essays that are thoughtful, enduring, and genuinely useful: to explore the human condition through psychiatry, philosophy, literature, history, and the wisdom of the ancient world, and to make as much of this work as possible freely available.

That is why all the essays on this website are free to read, and why I offer Growing from Depression as a free download to anyone who may find it helpful.

If my work has enriched your life, helped you think more clearly, or simply given you pleasure, your greatest support is to read it, recommend it, and share it with others.

Patronage

Some readers have asked whether there are other ways of supporting my work.

Historically, patronage enabled writers, artists, and scholars to devote themselves to ambitious projects that might otherwise never have been realised. It remains one of the finest expressions of a belief that ideas, beauty, and learning are worth preserving.

If you are interested in supporting future books, essays, or the long-term preservation of my work, I would be delighted to hear from you. Whether your interest lies in supporting current projects or in helping ensure that these books and essays remain available to future generations, every conversation is different, and all enquiries will, of course, be treated in the strictest confidence.

Thank you for reading.
